    Cunina gift

A Cunina Gift is a warm alternative for those that think of Cunina on their event. An important life event , like a birthday, the birth of a child, marriage or even decease usually goes hand in hand with giving a keepsake or a gift. Would you like to convert this warmth into support for charity ? Then ask your friends and family to not buy you a gift or a keepsake, but instead to donate to the account of Cunina. We will give you an overview of all the deposits afterwards. You can choose the country that receives the contribution of your Cunina Gift. If you do not have a preference, the money will be used in places where help is needed most. Tax certificates for donors In Belgium , a donor that contributes €40 or more a year is entitled to a tax certificate . Remember , the Cunina Gifts have to be paid directly into the account of Cunina by your friends or family. Only then they will qualify for tax certificate. Do you prefer collecting the gifts first, so you can send them to Cunina yourself? Then please visit our page with information on donations . Enter your event Enter your event and Cunina will provide you with a notification and the account number of Cunina that you put on your invitation.

    Cunina Scholarship

Support a student of higher education by contributing to the Cunina Scholarship. The Cunina Scholarship A lot of Cunina godchildren want to continue their education by going to college or university, but they do not always have godparents that keep supporting them. To be able to deal with this in a structured way , we started the Cunina Scholarship. People that prefer to not have a personal child sponsorship with the exchange of letters and want a shorter commitment or a budget friendly monthly contribution, can now choose to contribute to the Cunina Scholarship. A free monthly donation You can freely choose your monthly contribution if you support a student of higher education. The Cunina Scholarship is one account and Cunina divides the contributions among the selected students. This also means that personal correspondence is not possible, given that there is no link between a godparent and a specific student. As a godparent, you contribute monthly to the Cunina Scholarship for a duration of at least three years . This is the shortest study program of a student in our partner countries. However, most of them go to higher education for four or even five years. The monthly contributions start at €10 a month . You can freely choose if you want to contribute more than €10 a month. Here are some examples of possible contributions to the Cunina Scholarship. min. 3 years x  €10 a month min. 3 years x  €20 a month min. 3 years x  €30 a month Which students are qualified for the Cunina Scholarship? A student that qualifies for the Cunina Scholarship meets three conditions: He/she has been a Cunina godchild in the past He/she can present good school results He/she is highly motivated to study the chosen subject Cunina then decides, together with the local co-workers, which students receive the Cunina Scholarship. A Cunina Scholarship does not pay for all the school costs of one student. Each student has to pay a part of their school costs. The Cunina Scholarship completes the amount that the student has to pay. This way they will learn to be responsible for their own education.  Support a student through the Cunina Scholarship Fill in the following form and you will receive all the details to start the standing order. If you have any further questions, please contact our child sponsorship manager Kathleen at info@cunina.org .

    Volunteers

Participate in making the world a better place and support Cunina as a volunteer. Why does Cunina need volunteers? Cunina has a small, but strong team in Belgium that makes sure that the organization is run properly. However, sometimes it is necessary to get more people in touch with Cunina by, for example, organizing an event. We could also use some help with things like handling large quantities of post, printed matter or packages. These items are the backbone of the communication between godparents and their godchildren and between Cunina and their supporters. They are also very important if we want to promote our activities to the general public. That is why we are looking for some extra helping hands. We are counting on a motivated group of volunteers that is willing to support our permanent co-workers at busy times. Which jobs can be done? The most common jobs for volunteers are handling post and printed matter , like letters from godparents for their godchildren or Courant, the two-yearly magazine for our supporters. This work is done in group and is mostly done while sitting . Cunina always makes sure that there is a pleasant work atmosphere . In addition to this, we also organize several events , like the Walk 4 Charity that takes place around 1 May, on an annual basis. We count on a few tireless volunteers to help us out during these events. We have different jobs like serving drinks, managing the registrations, getting the event ready and cleaning up when it has finished. It usually is a day of hard work, but very satisfying in the end. These are only two examples of jobs. Every person has their own special talents and we are eager to know how you could help Cunina. In the past, we have worked with translators, IT workers and creative minds in general. Even if you love doing manual work, you are able to help Cunina. The legislation on volunteering Cunina complies with the Belgian Law on Volunteering. Would you like to know the minimum age requirement for volunteering, how the expenses are paid and if there is an insurance? Please visit  vlaanderenvrijwilligt.be , a very accessible website (in Dutch) about volunteering in Flanders.  This way you will find the most up-to-date information. Let us know if you want to become a Cunina volunteer Do you like the idea of being a Cunina volunteer? Then do not forget to give us your personal details by filling in the form on this page. We will contact you as soon as possible! Please do know that Cunina does not send volunteers to its partner countries. We only work with volunteers in Belgium. Thank you for your understanding. Sign up as a volunteer!

    Will

Even if you are no longer around, you can still make a difference. Supporting charity when you are no longer around? You can by including Cunina in your will , if you have children, or through a dual legacy , if you have no children. We advise you to directly consult a notary if you want to include Cunina in your will , given that every situation is unique. A dual legacy is a legal way to benefit your heirs, if you have no children , by leaving a part of your legacy to Cunina. Cunina pays a part of the inheritance taxes, which means that your heirs will be left with a higher net amount. Remember, this is only possible if you live in Belgium . The benefit of a dual legacy We explain the benefit of a dual legacy with a fictitious example. Please remember that a dual legacy is only possible if you have no children as your heir. However, having a cousin as your heir is possible. For example: You have no children and you want to leave € 100,000 to a cousin. According to the rates in Flanders, the legacy will be divided as follows:  Without a dual legacy With a dual legacy Cunina becomes the general legatee. As a non-profit organization, Cunina will have to pay all the inheritance taxes including the part of your cousin. This way, your cousin does not have to pay 55% extra taxes on the second part and he will have a higher net amount. As a non-profit organization Cunina only has to pay 8.8% taxes on their own part. The remaining money will be enough to make a difference for underprivileged children. Consult your notary Do not forget to consult your notary or your contact person at your bank for a will or a dual legacy. They will be able to help you compose a will or a dual legacy. Every situation is unique, so you need someone with expertise who can help you with the right division of the legacy.

    Book of Sophie Vangheel

“When I visited Haiti, a woman came up to me and put her youngest child in my arms. She begged me to take the child and look after it. Then she ran away. I did not know what was happening. I could not stop thinking about this moment. It happened to me a couple of times: parents begging me to take their child because they are not able to feed it, let alone provide it with education.” Sophie Vangheel wrote a book about her inspiring life story and her journey around the world. It is entirely based on the philosophy ‘the place where your cradle stands, determines the opportunities you get in life’. The book is filled with amazing pictures of her experiences and is written in Dutch. The cradle of Sophie stood in Geel, but her path led her, after a wonderful childhood and her studies to become a nurse, to places that tourists rarely visit. With a big smile and a tear here and there, Sophie invites you to discover what you have to do when there is a snake in your toilet in Haiti (call a father) or when a Zulu chieftain does not want to cooperate (do not give in!) But she especially invites you to think about your own path. The choices you make in your life, do they lead you to your goal? Do these choices really make you happy?
