When I was a child, I admired adults that helped underprivileged children in the South. That is something that I would like to do too.

We have been Sherlyn’s godparents since 2008. She lives in the slums of Pandacan in the Philippines. She lives in a small rented room together with her parents, her two brothers and her younger sister.

It is very difficult for us to imagine her living conditions. But we are getting to know her through the exchange of letters. These contain school results, Christmas cards, Valentine’s Day wishes and so on. She is funny, loves spaghetti and has never seen snow in her life.

Sherlyn had amazing results in primary school. Her parents are deservedly proud of her. We are happy that Sherlyn got the opportunity to continue her education in secondary school. Here in Belgium it is obvious that you can continue your education, in the Philippines it is not.

The new school year has started and Sherlyn is very enthusiastic to go to school again. She is curious to meet her new classmates, friends and teachers. We try to motivate her as much as possible to do her best at school.

A child sponsorship is amazing. You can be really touched by the actions of your godchild. We are extremely proud of her!

Becoming a Cunina godparent is a long-term commitment. You play an important role in the life of your godchild and you see them become a young adult with opportunities.

Testimonies of godparents

Becoming a godparent is not something you do every day. Thankfully you are not on your own. Since the foundation of Cunina, over 13.000 children have been sponsored. Here you can read the experiences of different godparents and their opinion on child sponsorship.
